Checklist for Year 12 Parents and Students : Has your Child Completed these Steps as they Prepare to Enter their Final Exams and Leave School?
HSC and/or IB
• Sort out a personal study space – clean space, organise computer files and stationary
• Identify and make a list of areas to improve on post-trials (i.e. subjects and topics that markers have critiqued)
• Design a study timetable for this week, including exercise. TutorTime recommends that year 12 students complete 2-4 hours of study per day this week
• Write down what your strengths are (i.e. subjects and topics that markers have rewarded you with high grades in your trial exams)
University
During students’ first week of StuVac (student vacation), they should aim to complete the following:
• Revise and finalise UAC choices
• Complete personal statement
• Complete college applications (if relevant)
• Complete scholarship applications (if relevant)
Personal
During students’ first week of StuVac (student vacation), they should aim to complete the following:
• Set up a Linked In profile
• Complete an up-to-date resumé
• Set up a personal and professional email account (i.e. an email with no affiliation to schools)
• Set up a personal bank account
• Apply for a Tax File Number
• Set up a superannuation fund
• Ensure you have both a school and personal reference (a personal reference may be from an old or current employer, family friend etc.)
• Ensure that all forms of ID are valid and up-to-date, including driver’s licence, passport and birth certificate
• Join the ‘Old Boys’, ‘Old Girls’ or ‘Old Students’ group for your school
